Reinforcing through Stories FILLING

Limited Capacity filling up

Attending last year's MidSchoolMath National Conference, featuring Dan Meyer and teachers using story to support math, provided a paradigm shift for myself in approaching math lessons.

In this session, I'll share how I began to utilize "short" stories to reinforce basic math skill concepts. These included Pythagorean Theorem, integers, area & volume, solving equations, and converting between percent / decimal and fraction.

I quickly found success using this format to provide high engagement with students in addition to strengthening their understandings. Students conclude each session with an activity that provided practice to reinforce their understanding of the process.

I'll share how you you can leave MidSchoolMath with the confidence you need to move forward and incorporate stories into your lessons - just start small and build on your efforts! I'll also highlight the impact these stories have on students, especially in helping to drastically increase student engagement and rigor.
