A Walk in the PARCC: Planning the Risk

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity seats available

As most school districts are approaching or already inside the PARCC Spring administration testing window, we find ourselves looking down the list of priority standards and Major clusters. “I taught this but, they haven’t mastered it,” you say. “We’ve touched on this skill but I’m not confident that we’ve gone deep enough.” “My students can do the math, it’s just the word problems that stump them.”

So lets use this time to come together as thought partners to plan out lessons and strategies that will support the kind of math teaching and learning we know is necessary to achieve deeper mathematics thinking. We’ve gathered some content related and pedagogical tools that we can put to use NOW before we leave the conference and lose some papers. The PARCC test isn’t just asking our students to solve a math problem, our students are being tasked with making decisions based on a given situation. Together, we will plan meaningful tasks and design a teaching and learning plan with probing questions that result in an emphasis on understanding multiple ways to approach the problem using collaboration as the secret weapon.

Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work!

Note: Try to bring a list of the skills/standards that you haven't covered in your classrooms - but want to - with you to this session!
