Our Special Education Department has set two goals: 1. Increase math proficiency on our end of year State assessment by 5% for SWD (students with disabilities). 2. To increase the graduation rate for SWD by 5%. We are looking at three root causes when it comes to math proficiency: Effective Instruction, high expectations, and secondary tiered interventions. We also feel that lack of success in math is one reason that student drop out and do not graduate, although we recognize that there are a variety of other reasons as well. I'd love to hear what other schools are doing to move more SWD to receive instruction in the general education environment and how they accomplished it.
